Reading of the Declaration of Independence
July 8 @ 12:00 PM – 12:30 PM
On July 8, 1776, riders ventured from Philadelphia with the first printed copies of the Declaration of Independence. Trenton, NJ was the first to receive theirs and it was read at noon on July 8 on the steps of the Hunterdon County Courthouse. Join us in the library as we commemorate this event with a live reading of the Declaration of Independence. Afterwards, you may choose to affirm your commitment to freedom, liberty, and democracy by signing our copy of the Declaration with your own John Hancock.
This is part of our America 250 programming and all attendees are eligible for our America 250 raffle.
Funding for this program is provided by the Friends of the Library.
