Acts of Science: Animal Cams!

April 22 @ 6:00 PM 8:00 PM

For Earth Day, learn how to help scientists identify animals “trapped” in photos from cameras placed in the wild. In this livestreamed event, we’ll meet the scientists working with the data collected from the cameras and have time for some hands-on practice!

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources runs Snapshot Wisconsin, a community science program that monitors wildlife across the state using a network of trail cameras. These cameras capture images when triggered by the heat and movement of animals, helping researchers track wildlife activity. Wisconsin contains many ecosystems—from forests to prairies—and supports dozens of mammal species along with hundreds of other vertebrates and thousands of plants and invertebrates. The project encourages public participation and provides resources for volunteers, educators, and community members to help study and protect wildlife.

Each participant in this program contributes to SciStarter’s goals of 2.5 Million Acts of Science in April! SciStarter.org is a hub of citizen science projects that allow for crowd-sourced research to help researchers gather and analyze data more quickly. There will be other giveaways and a prize for the most Acts of Science accomplished! Funding for this program is provided by an Acts of Science: Connected Event Support Grant from SciStarter.

This is part of our America 250! series. Participants will be entered into our America 250 raffle.

For Adults, Teens, and ages 9-12 with participating adult. Must register before 4:00 pm on April 21.
